The Reasons You're Not Successing At Replacement Upvc Door Handles
Replacement UPVC Door Handles
You can find the perfect handle for your door, whether replacing your existing handles or adding extra security. These upvc handles are easy to fit and comply with the required 92mm centres for multipoint locks.
The backplate fixing center and the keyhole/lever dimensions are the most important measurements. Make sure you compare these to your current measurements prior to ordering.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are made up of a lever on one side and a paddle-shaped handle on the other. They are designed to be used with key wind locks. However, they can be fitted to multipoint split spindle door locks.
Our range of upvc handles lever pads are available in a range of finishes. These will be displayed in the drop-down list after you have identified the right handle for your door. Not all styles of handles are available in every finish though and you should always check the technical drawings and sizes sections for the specific product that you are looking to ensure that you are getting the correct size and fit.
When selecting the new set of upvc lever pad door handles it is important to ensure that they match the PZ (distance between the spindle of the handle and the centre of the cylinder hole) of your existing multipoint locks, as they need to be in line to ensure that the doors remain locked, whether from the inside or outside. The handles we sell are designed to work with a variety of conventional cylinder locks, however you should double-check prior to ordering.
If you are looking to upgrade to dual spindle levers you will need to remove the handles that are currently in use and then disassemble the lock case. This will require an additional split cylinder inline. You can purchase these separately. We have included a diagram of the technical aspects in the images of each product.
It is a good thing to loosen the screws that hold the door handle you have and then examine the mechanism. If the screws aren't loose enough, you may need to loosen them further. Then you can remove the spindle from the door handle and replace it with your new Upvc handle. It is important to ensure that the handle is in the right position before screwing it into place. You can do this by placing your finger between the frame of the door, and the handle to make sure that it is level.
Lever/Lever
Lever door handles are with a multi-point lock that utilizes the Euro Cylinder and can be found on a majority of upvc double doors, aluminium doors and some wooden doors. They have a lever inside and a paddle on the outside and are typically available in two types. Sprung - these have a spring cassette fitted inside the backplate to bring the handle lever into the horizontal position. Non-sprung: These do NOT have a mechanism to spring the handle lever to a horizontal angle.
To fix the door handle of a lever that is sagging, you will need to locate the detent access hole or pin, which is usually an elongated or rectangular with a protruding hole that is located on the opposite side of the handle base plate. Once you have located it, loosen the set screw using the help of a screwdriver, and then take it off to allow the lever and return it to the horizontal position.
Once the handle is in a horizontal orientation, you can put the screws back in place and tighten them to make sure the handle stays secure on the base plate. It is also recommended to apply a threadlocking adhesive solution to the threads of the screw to increase the grip and prevent them from becoming loose over time.
There are a myriad of reasons why lever door handles drop. The most common reason is that the fixings aren't tight which causes the lever bearing to get tangled up against the door. It could also be due to the fact that the levers aren't operated in a straight line and this is causing compression of the latch mechanism and preventing it from fully springing back into service.
The most common reason for a spring lever not operating correctly is the spring not being in the right position on the backplate. The most effective way to determine this is to turn the handle to see if it returns to the horizontal position.
It is important to repair any door handles that are damaged immediately. This could cause excessive wear on the screws and the handle could fall off the base plate. You should also tighten any loose screws regularly to stop them from becoming looser.
Lever/Snib
The handles for doors made of upvc are also referred to as 'Snib' handles and have a snib lever at the top of the lever that can be pressed down to lock your door if you don't use an dummy lock. They are typically fitted with a Fullex 68PZ (that's 68mm between the spindle's center and lever or the lock centre) door lock. We also stock a variety of other door handles with 68PZ from various manufacturers, including Ferco and Fab & Fix.

Mortise
The tubular latch is the most likely to be the cause in the event that your door handle is slammed shut. This could be due to various reasons, but the most common is the lack of lubrication on the latch plate. This can be fixed quite easily by simply opening the door and spraying lubricant over the handle and lock. It could also be that the latch has slipped away from the backplate. This is a more complicated issue that requires the assistance of a specialist.
A multipoint handle system is the ideal solution for a stuck door handle. These handles mount through the door's faceplate and are operated by the thumb turn knob or key which activates a cam that locks the deadbolt. The handles come in a variety of sizes to suit different kinds of uPVC door and in a variety of attractive finishes that complement the hardware that is currently in use. The handles can be purchased online or through a local locksmith and can be installed with clear instructions.
You will need to know your PZ cylinder's size to select the appropriate replacement handle set. This is the distance in millimetres between the inside edge of the frame of the door and the centre of the hole for the handle. You'll also require the type of lock for your door, regardless of whether it is a mortise or hook lock. Once you have these measurements, the simplest way to find the correct handles is to search by brand option on the website. This will narrow down the choices and allow you to choose the right size from the list.
